Why the Law in the 1st place

Why did God give us a Law in the first place? After all, God is love and man is imperfect, and the imperfect can’t keep that which is perfect.

  • The Law shows us what we would have to do and in the flesh to be perfect.
  • It was put in place temporarily until the day of Jesus Christ.
  • It provided for sacrifices that were symbols of Jesus Christ. That’s why John the Baptist said Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
  • Anyone who believed under the Law was looking forward to the day of Jesus Christ. Even though, they did not know it. Jesus had not been revealed yet, except to a few.
  • It shows us what sin is.
  • Shows us our need for a savior. Jesus is our advocate. He is our lawyer.
  • Makes eveything legal. No one can say in all eternity we never needed a savior. What we can say and will say is: thank you Jesus.
  • Makes sin utterly sinful. That is that it codifies and specifies what sin is, that is it spells it out. Sin takes advantage of the Law uses the Law against us.
  • It is prophetic. It speaks of  Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lamb of God.
  • Was a shadow, but the reality is Jesus Christ.
  • Was a placeholder until the day of Jesus Christ.
